Well said! I also have had 3 minor accidents of which none were my fault. Trouble was all three were young drivers with no insurance!!!

Not old to drive at 70? Nor at eighty. I'm over eighty, have been driving since fifteen, have travelled thousands of miles including throughout Europe and the Middle East and have had three vehicle accidents, one of which was when I was fifteen and the car in front of me moved forward at a stop sign then stopped while I was looking left for on-coming traffic. The latest one when I was in my late seventies when driving in France and misjudged the passing distance on a bridge, and the third one in my forties when a car spun out of control in front of me on a wet road. We oldies have had years of practising competent driving and are pretty experienced. We have also learned to anticipate risk and dopey drivers. Perhaps if young drivers survive long enough, they will come to realise that turbo racing on public roads is not being a skilled driver.

That's brilliant, Mike. Yes, even better than people-watching is talking to strangers and I admit to doing that. I've met so many interesting people over the years, especially at airports. The best one was in Hawaii on a bus recognising the kiwi accent with some young ones, turned out they had visited our orchard and remembered us. Keep on P-W and enjoying your pies!!!

Like you, Fee, I also enjoy people watching. As I am a planned shopper, that is, I know what I want, dash in and get it if I can, and leave just as quickly, a lot of my P-W hours are waiting for Carol to finish wandering through shop after shop enjoying whatever takes her fancy. If it is going to be a long time (I am advised of this before she departs) I may order something to go with my coffee - something I don't get at home. Maybe a pie (stop screaming, Fee). However, I enjoy, like you, wondering about the people around me. Late last year I was at a Mall at Mt Maunganui having Chinese when a Maori family sat next to me and we got chatting as I am inclined to do. They were visiting from near Whangarei. They asked where I lived and when I said Waihi, they said their neighbour came from there. Being a smallish town and having lived there for nigh on fifty years now, I asked what the neighbour's name was. It turned out he was an ex-pupil of mine. Small world. And a much more interesting way to eat my lunch.

Couldn't agree more with the first horseman being greed. The earth will heal, it just may take human extinction to do so. I watched a doco about Chernobyl recently and the wildlife is coming back with bears, wolves and small animals and forests are growing. It's an eye-witness that nature can regenerate. Even the virus has taught us that, but sadly consumerism is the dominant devil. We can only keep the pressure on those in power.
