Getting Ready To Leave

Getting Ready To Leave

Wow! – 5 weeks goes by so fast. Now there’s a bit of a countdown going on here at the moment as I move out tomorrow.

kitty cat
When’s mum coming home???

The kitty cat is, I’m sure, looking forward to “mum” coming home – hahaha, just kidding….little kitty cat has no idea at all. I thought she would suspect when brought out the suitcase for the clothes and start dismantling the gear in the kitchen and bathroom, but she just went off to her favourite chair, curled up and has been asleep most of the day.  She did wake up and lift her head for about 30 seconds when I got the vacuum cleaner close to her, but didn’t see it as a threat so just went back to sleep.

“Dismantling the kitchen…” Now that sounds like I have a lot of stuff. I really don’t. Although, living at Pyes Pa with Greerton so close and all those Op Shops, I have to admit it’s been difficult to stay away from them. So there has been occasions that I have relented and spent a few hours mooching about and trying to ferret out the good stuff.
Found an excellent winter coat – excellent winter shoes and a pretty decent jersey.

Now let me tell you a little story ….

The little kitty cat that I’m looking after is now 18. Her mum had told me that if sleeping catanything went wrong to take her to the vet and he would make the call.
Well – it happened. Little miss stopped eating and just spent the entire time on the bed sleeping. She managed to drink a wee bit of water, but that was all. So worried was I that at one stage during the night I kept waking up and checking to see if she was still alive. By morning the decision was made that we were off to the vet.

The vet turned out to be a locum (temp) – a lovely lady locum vet and both she and the nurse decided that it wasn’t too cool an idea for me to have to take on such a responsibility.

The upshot was that the vet thought the kitty cat’s kidneys were probably packing in and that other organs were slowly shutting down, however, without taking blood tests she wouldn’t know for sure. Puddy was pretty dehydrated as well which was what I had thought, so… in went a couple of liquid, slow release patches, a shot of anit-biotics (or something like that), a bit of cleaning of the teeth which could have started the whole thing and to top it off, a shot of steroid (which the vet reckoned would give her a new lease of life and should last for about four weeks, plenty of time till mum came home).

More ….. Want More

Back into the car cage, into the car and a quick 10 minute trip home …. out of the car, out of the cage and guess what the little princess did? Yup, straight to the food bowl and into the tucker. From then on there’s been no looking back.

Moral of the story is:  When I’ve gone out to pasture, remind me to get into the steroids so that I can see out the end of my days full of beans, eating well and sleeping when I want.

I still have about 24 hours to go before I leave, but I’m hoping nothing will happen on my watch!

It’s Over ….

It’s Over ….

My life without Ginge won’t be the same.

Well, of course it won’t – duh. But have to admit here is another cat who stole my heart. I left the burbs yesterday and returned to my digs to wait it out for 5 days before heading off into the sunset for another house-sitting stint.

So here’s what happened when I left. Of course, Ginge knew that I was going, he’d known the night before when I had started to pack up. That’s when he disappeared. Oh, he did wind me up something bad. I called and called, went outside in the dark and looked up and down the street …. nothing.

It was then I had a flashback to when my oldest was a toddler and went missing – the absolute dread of any parent.  We had the packhouse staff out looking all over the orchard. Found him – under his bed asleep!

So, Ginge wasn’t flat on the road, wasn’t around the property that I could see, he must be in the house. And it’s not the biggest house on the block, so not a lot of places to hide. Found him – behind the T.V. asleep!

The morning dawned and I began the final push towards departure time. House was clean, car was packed, check was done …. wait, better check again. All boxes ticked except for Ginge. As I came out the door I spotted him – I thought cats were discreet at where they pooped …. this is a fine example of Ginge and his attitude. I’ll let the photos tell the rest.

“Oh, what? Thought that’s what the neighbour’s front lawn was for, besides, I’m ‘sitting discreetly'”
“Hey, wait !!! “

he was literally meowing as he was running across the road

“the sitting isn’t working…..I’ll circle her instead?

I did eventually get into my car, taking special care as I went down
the drive looking out for him.  I finally spotted him …….

cd_571143d8d8c2e
“Well, bugger off then, I’ll nick over to the neighbour’s”

And here’s the aside ….. It’s not all peachy in the burbs!

I Have Returned!

I Have Returned!

The West Wind blew me back to Pyes Pa and Ginge.

cd_5700c9e86c228

Yes, I am trying to grab your attention with a ridiculous first sentence.  The West Wind didn’t blow me back – that was “Mary Poppins”, or was that the East Wind? Or maybe it was the East wind blew around Juliette Binoche when she played the mysterious Vianne in the movie “Chocolat”.  Ha! See, you now think that I’m really good at remembering characters in old movies. Nah, just good at putting questions to Mr Google.

Leaving the delightful Millie at Bayfair on Easter Monday, I drove off to Pyes Pa arriving late morning. As I already knew this home, it was quite easy to unpack and get myself sorted. However, Ginge was nowhere in sight. In fact, by late afternoon I was getting slightly concerned.

Now Ginge gets fed in the garage and the door to the garage is raised ever so slightly so he can come and go as he pleases. (Cat door currently not installed). Nothing for it. I had to go into the garage, get his container of food and begin going around the house and grounds shaking said container and calling. Nothing. Zilch. Not a pecky-boo from the lad. Around this time I was getting worried. Unwanted thoughts came flooding into the old grey matter – you know the ones – the scenarios, the “what ifs” and the “bloody hells” …. do I – oh dam, what to do? I sure didn’t like the idea of losing a beloved one on my watch.

Garage stuff
Hidden in the darkness

With the thoughts crowding into my mind and still shaking the container, I headed back into the garage. The gods were watching over me….no sooner had I stepped inside the door when I heard his voice (and a meow that can only come from a large Ginger cat I might add). Sort of a “what you want?” “what you wake me for?” …..  I could hear him, but couldn’t see him. Nothing to it, kept him “talking” so I could follow his voice.

I discovered him right at the back on a shelf about 300 ml off the floor in a dark corner. It took all of my decorum not to collapse onto my knees and kiss the ground he had walked on. Of course not, that didn’t even enter my head – just a bit of literary claptrap to keep you entertained. You are entertained, aren’t you? If so, be a sport and add a comment once you’ve finished reading this …. scroll down, the comment box is down there.

Besides, comments tell me that someone is actually reading this stuff which is a real boost to my ego, and we all know that people who live alone need to have their egos boosted from time to time.

Will continue at a later date with more on Ginge.  I’m here for another couple of weeks.

…. another little scroll will get you to the comments …  just down therered_down_arrow_97

Up To The 2nd House-Sit 2016

Up To The 2nd House-Sit 2016

This the first house-sit with the gorgeous Millie.

cd_56edea79da188
Likes walking over computer.

It’s for 10 days and already I’m wishing it was for longer….I arrived yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
This is the most delightful home and Millie made herself all smoochy to me pretty much from the moment I stepped inside.

The position of this abode is fairly close to where I used to live at the Mount, so only a short walk to Bayfair – (not that a Mall is inspiring at all) – easy access to the causeway to get me to work on time and I’m back at the Mount where, I must be honest now, is where my heart is.

In saying all that – each home I’ve previously sat, and those that are coming up, all have a beautiful vibe to them. This has been ascertained as I have interviewed each one rigorously.

The first thing I did, after unpacking the car, was to go over the ‘instructions’ again, (I’d already gone through them when I’d picked up the key). All good – understood everything. And, the wonderful sense of humour shone through …. here I present a snippet:

Our courtyard pot plants are Alice, Graham, Neville, Dennise, Gordon, Margaret, please don’t move them as they will get disorientated and wander around all night looking for their spot. Kept us awake all night once. They appreciate water if it is very hot – same with the back crew.

There was also a bit on Ants:

We have the largest ants in the world living under our courtyard pavers. Sometimes you will see a paver move – don’t be alarmed just give them a squirt with that spray under the fire place – seriously tho they will bite, you will understand lying naked in our courtyard is not recommended … also, think of our neighbours.

So, with a chuckle I turned the page to get the wifi password. All good, password there – opened up the wifi on my phone, put in password … didn’t work. Mmmm. Decided to do it on the computer.

There were probably about four locked networks to choose from, none had an obvious name. So with my super power of deduction I went through the list. None connected ????? Hmmmmmmm. Next thought was to look at the router and grabbed the pRouterassword on the back. Aha, take camera and take photo.

Voila! Password worked first time. I had another look at the instructions. Cute typo – missing a zero. I’m not sure if that was deliberately to test of my ingenuity or a missed tap on the keyboard – either way, I was pretty proud of the fact that there was no bad language to be heard – besides, don’t know what Millie’s sensitive ears are used to, so best curb the naughty words.

Of course it’s rained since I got here which means that I haven’t been able to get out for a walk, nor make use of the delightful courtyard and play with the ants.

Millie isn’t the only occupant of this home that’s been entrusted to me, there are several kids out in the courtyard. Oh yes, the livestock here is plentiful.
Feast your eyes on these little beauties!!!!!

Not only do I have the company of awesome creatures, but there are herbs aplenty. The owners of this establishment are not only delightful in their humour and friendliness, but generous as well …. “help yourself to the herbs”. Oh my, already on the first day I’ve whizzed up a mint and tahini dressing – lord only knows what I will do with the fresh Rosemary and then there’s the basil … I feel a pesto coming on!!!!!

Mmmm, sauce !

Yes, of course I brought my machine – as if I wouldn’t !!!!

House-Sit Happening

House-Sit Happening

Here we go…..the first house-sit of 2016.

I’ve just begun a week at a home in Pyes Pa. Lovely new home with gorgeous ginger cat – three guesses to get his name. No? Can’t think? O.k. I’ll tell you ….. Ginge. But he’s one cool cat! Like his owners too. They were neighbours of mine back in the day when I was living at the Mount. Yup, they sold and shifted around the same time as I moved out and went house-sitting.

cd_56ca10a0d7ce2

This couple are so lovely to house-sit for and this will be the third time (I think). Not only that but they gave a really great reference which has landed me another HS for 10 weeks over winter. If you haven’t guessed, HS stands for house-sit, but who am I kidding, you’re such a bright reader I know you already figured that out… my apologies for doubting you.

As you can see, I don’t have the wonderful views from here, but, like I said, brand new home, all the mod-cons, and best part – a kitty to talk to and cuddle.  (when he lets me).

Oh, before I go, just thought I’d let you know that I’ve bought myself a decent hula hoop and am resurrecting the blue ribbon hoop winner child within me and getting some toning happening!

cd_56ca10e6c0bfb

And it’s not easy to take a selfie when hooping!
