When is a Toy Not a Toy?

When is a Toy Not a Toy?

There are times when I see things and I do wonder what the story is. And this was one of those times when I spied a toy.

So in this case I have to ask – when is a toy not a toy? And I’m not talking about adult toys…  Please, raise your thoughts into higher spheres.

Although, in this case, there may be a bit of ‘gutter speak’ going on.

Now, this particular type of little toy – see image below, I’ve seen around many times. It pops up in odd places, like hanging on a keyring or on a kiddie’s backpack.

This little man is keeping guard over the front door, hanging from the coat rack.

So when I spied one on the back of a large Toyota trucky-type vehicle, I smiled but then did a double-take when I spied something rather unusual about it.

First thing I noticed was that it was on the outside back window and gave the illusion that someone, other than the owner, had put it there, deliberately.

Now, I’m quite sure that the guy who owns the Toyota. Whoa, that’s a bit sexist of me to assume that it’s someone of the male persuasion that owns this double-cab massive, extremely clean (LOL) wagon. It could easily be a woman.

But I digress.

Now the person who owns the truck, I’m quite sure didn’t attach the toy up there for all to see. And what makes me think that is because the very next day, the truck was in the gym car park but the toy was gone!

So, take a look at the photo……. Carefully.

As I said, I did do a double-take when I saw that an extra appendage had been added.

Now what nudges my funny-bone is that there has to be some story that goes along with it.

  • An inside joke?
  • A jilted lover?
  • A flirtatious affair?

I realise I’ll never know the story, but it was certainly fun thinking about it.

One of the joys of my life is finding the funny.

WE CAN RECYCLE ANYTHING!

WE CAN RECYCLE ANYTHING!

What do you do with those umbrellas?

There is always something that I come across every day, that makes me laugh. And seeing cocktail umbrellas strung up along a pergola certainly tickled my funny bone.

I mean, talk about recycling! And how many cocktails did the owners have to have to get to create this remarkable string of fun?

recycle anything

As I continued my walk, more questions came to mind about these cute brollies.

  • Did they keep replacing them as the paper got ruined in the sun/rain?
  • How were they strung?
  • Maybe I could do the same? – oh wait, I don’t drink cocktails!
  • Where do you get them from?

[ss_click_to_tweet tweet=”There’s always something to giggle about if you look. Don’t take yourself too seriously. #laughaboutit” content=”” style=”default”]

Good thing I’d taken a photo of these little cuties because as I was telling my friend, I was able to pull up the pic and show her.

Imagine the enormous deflation I felt when she told me that they were little lights and one could buy them easily. However, search as I did, I only found one place that sold them, and that was on a party site, in the USA, under ‘Tropical & Luau’.

Guess I’ll just have to start having cocktails and save the wee parasols for stringing. Of course, I’ll have to make sure there is an excellent story to tell with each one!

New Label for Foodies – Pegan

New Label for Foodies – Pegan

Funniest thing I’ve heard in awhile.

So any ideas what a Pegan might be? To give you a clue, other labels can include Pescetarian – those who only eat fish and no other animal – or Fruitarians who eat only raw fruit and seeds.

So a new label has come into being originating from Dr. Mark Hyman and it’s the joining of Paleo and Vegan diets.

Whoa!  Didn’t think you’d be able to join those two together as I thought that Paleo needed meat, but apparently not. Go figure!

Vegan and Paleo are very similar as both focus on real, whole, fresh food that is sustainably raised.

  • Both shun dairy.
  • Paleos do not eat legumes or grains – Vegans do.
  • Paleos do eat meat – Vegans don’t.
VEGAN FOOD
However, Dr Hyman suggests that for the grains, stick to small portions of low glycemic grains like black rice or quinoa.
Beans are great, but again, stick to small amounts – about 1 cup a day is ample – (more than I’d eat.)
Although he’s not against eating sustainably raised, clean meat, whereas vegans won’t touch it, he does concede that meat does put pressure on the planet, which it does.
PALEO FOOD
He goes on to to say eggs no longer have the impact on cholesterol as once thought, so they’re fine. Again a no no for the Vegans and I will debate that about the cholesterol!!!

Then he adds that fish, even though you should worry about the mercury that is now abounding through all fish, eat fat rich fish such as sardines or wild salmon to get omega 3. He fails to tell you that for omega 3 you can get eat flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seed, mustard oil, seaweed, beans (mungo beans the best) and the list goes on.

Just as an aside:  Wild rice should be a staple for all vegetarians and vegans. One cup cooked delivers lots of iron, protein, fiber, magnesium, zinc, and manganese. You’ll also get 156mg Omega 3 while only taking in 195mg of Omega 6.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Back to Dr Hyman.

He says

“…Looking at the research it is easy to get confused. Vegan diet studies show they help with weight loss, reverse diabetes and lower cholesterol.  Paleo diets seem to do the same thing….”

From what I can glean from his ideas, he’s saying that a vegan diet is fabulous, but if you don’t want to go vegan then a little bit of Paleo added to it works too = Pegan.

PEGAN FOOD ???

All the above has been written from a dietary point of view only …. being vegan encompasses more than just diet and, even if you go vegan for health reasons, you’ll soon discover just how much the animals and planet are benefiting from your choice.

Personally I will stick with being vegan.
